The Romance

 

Our fabulous, luxurious, waterfront country house has a 200ft frontage to the Port Navas Creek an arm of the beautiful Helford River tidal estuary on Cornwall’s, Mediterranean-like, south coast. It has its own Private Shingle Beach, Quay and Slipway and lies within a nationally renowned Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This gorgeous, exclusive, creek-side haven is exquisitely situated down a quiet, private lane and is set in its own 2 acres of magical, sub-tropical gardens and woodland. The magnificent, slate-flagged, west facing terrace has glorious views of the creek and the wooded hills beyond and is beautifully positioned to catch the warm afternoon sunshine and romantic sunsets. The fabulous country house features over 5000 square feet of sheer luxury and sleeps up to 20 persons. It contains 8 Bedrooms (including 4 Large Master Suites each with an en-suite bathroom, super king-size bed and a sofa-bed/foldaway bed), 6 Bathrooms, a large lounge and sunroom, a dining room, a fully equipped kitchen, a Pool and Spa Room and a Games Room with a slate-bed, snooker and pool table and an Xbox 360 games console. There is full oil-fired central heating to radiators, a log burning fireplace and a 40 inch High Definition LCD TV with Sky+, Movies and Sports in the lounge, TVs in all of the bedrooms, 2 DVD/CD players and complimentary wireless Broadband Internet access. For summer, alfresco dining there is a large outdoor table and chairs and a gas-fired barbeque and grill. Adjacent to the house approached down our sweeping driveway, is a double garage with a powered roller door and extensive parking for at least 8 cars.

 

Our fabulous, Private Heated Indoor Pool and Spa with swim jets is invitingly positioned in the, air conditioned, pool room overlooking the creek and there are also opulent 14 jet, Jacuzzi-style, circular Whirlpool Baths in two of the master en-suite bathrooms. Use of a challenging 18-hole Golf Course and Tennis Courts are available (chargeable) at the adjacent hotel and the Fine Sandy Beach at Helford Passage is an easy walk away. Between Easter and the end of October, Complimentary use of one 14ft, 6 person Motor Boat is provided for the duration of your stay or you can, of course, bring your own boat or jet-ski and moor it to our quay. Explore the wonderful, Helford River tidal estuary or cruise for lunch or dinner at one of the chic, creek-side restaurants and pubs or simply just ‘mess about on the river’. With the ground floor containing 1 en-suite bedroom, 3 further bedrooms and a separate bathroom, The Anchorage is an ideal holiday venue for the disabled and people with limited mobility.

 

The Anchorage is our family's much loved private holiday home, we are not travel agents or tour operators nor do we own any other UK rental properties and are proud to give personal, attentive service to our guests. We have put a lot of thought and work into making our vacation country house as sumptuous and as comfortable as possible and we do hope that you will decide to stay. Please do note that The Anchorage is never rented on a split basis and your reservation guarantees full, exclusive use of the whole estate, house, pool, spa and facilities. All guests are supplied in advance with a copy of our detailed ‘Book of the House’ containing comprehensive information and advice to make your holiday even more enjoyable. Additionally, we welcome you with fresh flowers on arrival.

 

 

The Location

 

The Anchorage is situated on the private Anna Maria Lane in the hamlet of Budock Vean, South Cornwall and is beautifully positioned on the banks of the stunning Porth Navas Creek, an arm of the fabulous Helford River tidal estuary. It lies close to Daphne du Maurier’s, famous 'Frenchman’s Creek' and is just a few miles south west of the historic port of Falmouth. Within an easy walk at Helford Passage are a lovely sandy beach and a ferry across the river to the beautiful village of Helford. The Duchy Oyster Farm is to be found in the nearby, picturesque village of Port Navas. Local grocery shopping and a Post Office are available in the village of Mawnan Smith, just over one mile away.

The Gardens, Woodland and Grounds

 

The house is approached off an exclusive, quiet, private lane serving only a few select residences and has its own sweeping driveway leading down to the imposing entrance, double garage and extensive parking area. The sub-tropical gardens and ancient woodland extend to 2 acres and the extensive lawns gently slope down from the private lane above, to the creek side. At the top end of the garden are numerous Palms, Yuccas, Rhododendrons, Hydrangeas, Azaleas, Camellias, Holly bushes, Roses and Clematis. There are shrub beds on all sides of the house and a large woodland area containing ancient oaks beyond the private lane above. In addition, near the creek, there is a hidden seating area with a lovely waterfall tumbling down the rocks to the creek.

 

 

The Sporting Activities

 

There are numerous sandy beaches and coves between The Anchorage and Falmouth. Your own boat, dinghy, rib or jet-ski can be moored at our quay and between Easter and the end of October complimentary use of a motor boat is provided. Additional motor boat rental is also available. We have our own slipway for launching dinghy’s and ribs and for larger, trailered boats and jet-skis, there is a public slipway in nearby Port Navas. Golf is available (chargeable) at the adjacent hotel (18-hole, 5255 yards, par 68) and the nearby Falmouth Golf Club (18-hole, 5860 yards, par 70). Tennis is also available (chargeable) at the adjacent hotel. There is a superb local network of footpaths including the stunning South West Coast Path National Trail. Excellent fishing is available from our quay or from a boat and the creek is often full of Sea Bass. Sailing and tuition is available at the Helford River Sailing Club and bicycle rental is also available. Cornwall is a major world surfing destination and the Atlantic beaches at Newquay and Perranporth are within easy reach. Deep sea fishing and whale/dolphin watching trips can be arranged.

 

 

The Eating Out

 

The Ferryboat Inn at Helford Passage can be easily reached by walking, car or by boat and provides a wide range of bar food in its lovely beachside setting. The Red Lion in Mawnan Smith is strongly recommended for its excellent bar food. The Budock Vean Hotel has an excellent restaurant and a lovely conservatory for lunch, be sure to try their speciality Cornish dishes including oysters, beef and cheese.  The Trengilly Wartha Inn near Constantine has an excellent restaurant with a superb wine list, serves great bar food and acts as our local off-license. The Shipwrights Arms across the river in Helford is renowned for its superb steaks cooked by their chef on the outside grill and The Sticky Prawn Restaurant in Flushing is highly recommended for seafood, quaintly set on the quayside of this lovely fishing village.

 

 

The Places of Interest

 

There are numerous places of interest and activities in the area for adults and children of all ages, including The Eden Project, The National Maritime Museum, The Flambards Theme Park, Roskillys Ice Cream & Organic Farm, The National Seal Sanctuary, The Poldark Mine Experience, The Goonhilly Satellite Earth Station Experience and watching the fast jets and helicopters at RNAS Culdrose. The Mediterranean-like south coast of Cornwall is well known for its sub-tropical climate and the internationally renowned gardens at Trebah and Glendurgan are within 1 mile of The Anchorage. Flights to the fabulous Scilly Isles can be arranged from Penzance Heliport or Newquay Cornwall Airport.

 

 

The Wildlife

 

There is a stunning variety of birdlife to be seen along the creek including buzzards, cormorants, egrets, herons, gulls, terns, dunlins, crows, rooks, ravens, kingfishers, owls and ducks. Occasionally you may even see a seal or a dolphin. The creek is a recognised nursery for young Sea Bass who can often be seen by our quay in the spring and summer feeding in the warm, clear, shallow waters. The woodland is a haven for badgers, foxes, squirrels and rabbits. The Journey

 

Major improvements to the M5 motorway and the A30 expressway have made the car journey even easier with Bristol being a 2 hour drive, the West Midlands 3 hours and the South East 3.5 hours. Recent improvements to the main rail line into Cornwall have also shortened journey times and frequent, fast express train services to Truro are operated by First Great Western and CrossCountry. You can rent a car at Truro station (14 miles) or change at Truro onto the ‘Maritime Line’ branch train for the short journey to our local station at Penmere (4 miles) and rent a car from there. Newquay Cornwall Airport (26 miles) has enjoyed rapid growth and now features numerous destinations including London (Gatwick), London (Stansted), London (Luton), Birmingham, Southampton, Manchester, Leeds/Bradford, Isle of Man, Newcastle, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Cardiff, Dublin, St Brieuc and Chambery in France, Dusseldorf in Germany, Geneva in Switzerland and Reus, Gerona and Alicante in Spain. Private flights may use Newquay Cornwall Airport or, by arrangement with the Royal Navy, the Culdrose Air Station (8 miles).

18 Jul until 28 Aug       £8000 per week

29 Aug until 18 Dec     £4000 per week, £3000 per 2/3 night break, £3500 per 4 night break

19 Dec until 8 Jan        £8000 per week

 

 

The Conditions

 

All weekly rentals and short breaks usually commence Fridays at 4pm. However, variable arrival days and times are available, please enquire for details.

The reservation deposit is 40% of the rental rate and the balance is payable 3 months prior to the start of the rental.

The £1000 security deposit is payable with the balance and is refundable within 30 days of the end of rental, subject to inspection.

No smoking is allowed inside our home.

Pets will be considered on application at £50 each per reservation.

The Payment Methods and Refunds

 

Payment is accepted in £ sterling, US $ dollars or € Euros by bank transfer or by credit/debit card. Payment by Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express is through PayPal and is subject to a 4% merchant fee that will be deducted from the security deposit. The reservation deposit, once paid, is not refundable. Cancellation after the balance has been paid and between 4 and 12 weeks prior to rental – 50% of the rental rate refunded. Cancellation between 2 and 4 weeks prior to rental – 25% of the rental rate refunded. Cancellation less than 2 weeks prior to rental – no refund.

 

 

The Inclusive Items

 

A welcome vase of Fresh Flowers on arrival, Between Easter and the end of October, use of one 6 person, 14ft motor boat for 2 days during weekend breaks and for 7 days during weekly rentals. Electricity, Use of linens, towels (but please bring your own beach towels), cutlery and crockery, Central heating oil, Water supply, Waste water disposal, House cleaning and linen/towel change on departure (all rentals), Linen/towel change every Friday (rentals of more than 1 week). Lawns and garden maintenance, Pool and spa cleaning and maintenance.

Additional motor boat rental between Easter and the end of October at £90 per boat per day or £350 per boat per week.

Food and grocery provisions taken in prior to arrival and put away in the fridge, freezer and cupboards.
