The Anchorage

Gardens and Grounds

The sub-tropical gardens and ancient woodland extend to 2 acres and the extensive lawns gently slope down from the private lane above, to the creek side. At the top end of the garden are numerous Palms, Yuccas, Rhododendrons, Hydrangeas, Azaleas, Camellias, Holly bushes, Roses and Clematis.

There are shrub beds on all sides of the house and a large woodland area containing ancient oaks beyond the private lane above. In addition, near the creek, there is a hidden seating area with a lovely waterfall tumbling down the rocks to the creek.

Wildlife

There is a stunning variety of birdlife to be seen along the creek including buzzards, cormorants, egrets, herons, gulls, terns, dunlins, crows, rooks, ravens, kingfishers, owls and ducks. Occasionally you may even see a seal or a dolphin. The creek is a recognised nursery for young Sea Bass who can often be seen by our quay in the spring and summer feeding in the warm, clear, shallow waters. The woodland is a haven for badgers, foxes, squirrels and rabbits.

Further information about the spectacular local wildlife can be viewed on The Helford River and The Helford Marine Conservation Area websites.
